Hello my name is Taylor Warner and I am a senior here at URI. I grew up in Portsmouth, RI but now my parents live in Little Compton and I have been living i Newport. This summer I spent some time in Myrtle Beach but mostly I worked and went to the beach. I have always been interested in fashion which is what lead me to my major but I am also interested in global sustainability and textiles as well as fashion play a big part in that. The fashion future section of this class seems really interesting to me.
Hi I’m Emily, I am a senior TMD student here at URI with a minor in Art/Art History. I have always had a passion for clothing and fashion as well as an interest in art. I believe the two are connected in many ways and my knowledge in each field has helped me to understand the other. I am returning to URI this fall from a semester abroad in Florence, Italy. My experience there was amazing. Italy is one of the best places in the world to study both fashion and art and I learned a lot during my time there. I look forward to learning more about how to analyze fashion trends and people’s consumer behavior through this course.
Hi everyone! My name is Molly Robbins and I am a senior TMD major. I’m originally from Portsmouth, Rhode Island but I lived in Newport, RI this past summer. I worked at the Banana Republic in Newport for 2 years which helped me to understand the retail/fashion industry better. I also just recently started an internship with the surf clothing company O’Neill. Fashion has been important to me for as long as I can remember and I have always planned on having a career in the industry. I am looking forward to taking this class and learning more about fashion theory!
My name is Danielle Vachon and I am a senior TMD major and journalism minor from Townsend, MA. I first realized I loved fashion in highschool when I went on a trip to Europe my junior year of high school and was inspired by all the fashion there. It influenced me to major in fashion in college as well as study abroad in Florence, Italy last semester. This summer I interned for small boutiques in my hometown as well as worked for a marketing company in Providence. I am excited to take this class and learn more about the behind the scenes work that puts out lines into stores.
Hi! My name is Claudia Evora and I’m from Narragansett, Rhode Island. I’m currently a senior majoring in TMD and minoring in PR. I spent this past summer interning in NYC for a clothing company called the Vanity Room, in Midtown. I absolutely loved my internship and especially New York. This summer just reassured me that working in fashion and living in NYC is what I need to be doing. Since I graduate in December I plan on moving to NYC the second I get offered a job. Since a young girl I have always loved fashion and knew that I wanted to pursue a career in fashion.
My name is Stefanie and I am from Montclair, New Jersey. I am currently a senior and graduating as a TMD major. This summer I stayed in New Jersey working, and visiting my beach house down in Long Beach Island. Once I graduate I am hoping to pursue interior decorating. Last summer I worked with a local interior decorator and helped her with a few projects she was working on. Working hands on gave me a better understanding as well as appreciation for this type of work, and I hope to continue this passion once I graduate. By taking this class on fashion theory I hope to learn a bit more on how fashion evolvement changes the behavior of individuals.
I am Katherine Wilkinson, but most call me Katie! I am from Westport, Ma and I am a senior this year in the TMD program. I can’t believe this is senior year, time flies! This summer I worked at a local clothing store and a restaurant. I had the privilege to attend the gift show at the Javits convention center in New York with my boss and helped her buy Christmas gifts for the store. Definitely an eye opener to the buying industry and made me realize more that I am in the right major. Fashion was always something that I had interest in, especially high fashion. I would be interested into learning about forecasting and how designers theorize what will be the next big thing, and if Zeitgeist will be different for “our time” since it seems that times are changing faster than ever due to technology.
Hi, my name is Kristine DeMoranville. I am a senior at URI double majoring in TMD and Psychology. I am from West Greenwich, Rhode Island. This summer I worked at, and am currently still working at local grocery store. I also made a few trips to Florida with my sister throughout the summer. I am very interested in the visual merchandising part of the fashion industry and I believe that what we learn in this class will help expand my knowledge. Being knowledgeable on the different theories and being able to understand and analyze different elements of fashion will be beneficial to me in the future.
My name is Riley St. Cyr and I am a senior from Franklin, MA. I am currently majoring in TMD with a minor in business. This summer I worked full time as an intern for a jewelry company in Smithfield, Rhode Island. While there I helped with merchandising and the development of new product for potential buyers. In the past I have worked in retail clothing stores as a sales associate or in visual merchandising, so it was exciting to see a different side of a business. I have always been interested in fashion and am excited to learn more about fashion theories in this class.
Hi! My name is Allie Blaisdell and I am a senior at URI, majoring in TMD with a minor in General Business. I am from a small town on the seacoast in New Hampshire. This summer I was able to intern at two small boutiques, in.jean.ius and Twilight, located in the North End in Boston. I worked three days a week making an hour commute into the city by train! This was a very eye opening experience to be able to first hand see how much goes into running a successful small business from the ground up. I was able to watch over the owners buying process for the upcoming fall and holiday seasons as well as help out with the visual merchandising, sales promotions/advertising, and being a stylist myself! I also worked at Marshall’s as a sales associate when I was not making the commute into the city. I have always been interested in fashion and the industry ever since I can remember. I love the fact that fashion is a universal language but also is unique and different for each individual and personality. It is purely a means of self expression. I extremely love the fact that just by guiding someone to the perfect article of clothing or accessory can change their whole view on themselves and create a sense of confidence like never before! I am looking forward to this class pertaining to fashion theory and understanding why things are the way they are.
