Field Work

For my field work I decided a good place to observe and collect information was websites of Luxury brands such as Michael Kors, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes. While visiting these websites it became clear what brands where luxury, exclusive and geared towards the elite rather to those that are more geared towards the middle class. Hermes, Louis Vuitton and Chanel being at the top I feel like the reason why they have more exclusivity as brands and not immersed into day to day pop culture is primarily because of their high pricing along with their high quality materials used to make their product. Whereas the other three brands seem to be on the pricey side but there doesn’t seem to be any exclusivity, for one there are so many options and pieces for these brands on their websites along with a wide range in price and no real emphasis on how the product was made. The brands we know to be more exclusive and luxurious like Hermes and Louis Vuitton have their websites not only sell items but rather tell a story about there products to make you want to buy them not because of the logo or name but because your buying something of quality and class, different from the pop culture driven brands like Michael Kors especially.

  1. You say it is clear to determine the markets, is that based on more than exclusivity and price? Are they selling the story of quality? Is that story more than informative about the products materials?
