Alexander McQueen Style and Design

The transition from McQueen designing his original pieces to Sarah Burton designing under the brand has brought both positive and negative changes for the brand itself. The brand could never have been questioned on authenticity when McQueen himself was head designer. However now with his influence no longer present Burton is vulnerable to authenticity questioning. The brands style has become more ready-to-wear and a bit less avant garde. While the design is still meticulous and wild, it is more tame and includes pieces that are truly simple and even classic. Burton has been with the brand long enough that it may even be possible for her to create a small in house line for just her point of view in order to categorize her non-McQueen like designs. The evolution of style and design for this brand has evolved to be more appealing to the masses, but is that what McQueen would have wanted?
