  1. I find Comme des Garçons absolutely fascinating and this article explains why…
    The label’s goal is “to rise above market forces to freely create new things” and “upend standard notions of clothing, gender and beauty.” Some are confused by the term “avant-garde”… Comme des Garçons is the definition. It is incredible that a brand like this (much more “out there,” in my opinion, than Betsey Johnson) is still a driving force in the fashion world after 45 years. You don’t see Comme des Garçons on the red carpet. Creativity is a driving force that allows the label to stand out, in the most literal sense, making certain garments inappropriate for red carpet events.
    Look at Louis Vuitton’s recent collaboration with Comme des Garçons – Large, gaping holes on the sides of a classic LV tote! And people ask “who would buy such a thing?” If I were to ever spend money on a Louis Vuitton purse, it would be one with a sense of humor, irony, and creativity. Maybe that is why this brand lives on.
