Here´s a discussion from a little while back (August 2011.) Very relevant to our purpose this week – reading the Zeitgeist. (Go to the article and click on “Read the Discussion.”)
“There are places where we aren’t going to be competitive,” said Scott of [the Economic Policy Institute.] We’re not going to make clothing, for the most part. … We’re not going to make much in the way of footwear, toys, furniture. Those things aren’t going to come back.” (My boldfacing. ~K)
For the purpose of our course, I’m mainly posting this one for the last paragraph. However, read the whole thing: A remarkable and clearly brilliant project. Makes me want to do something like it here in RI.
Interesting insight into contemporary high-culture dress habits. The brand-name-dropping in itself is a fun game. I´d like to see Ms. de Niese´s wardrobe on a mood board. What does this look like? Layers of meaning here.
